4.2 What worries unit managers most?

A couple of years ago, we surveyed nurse unit managers across a number of hospitals, asking them “What worries you most?”.  What we found was that they were most worried about:

  • managing performance (48% of those surveyed),
  • strategic direction – not understanding it or being part of setting it (40% of those surveyed),
  • managing change (40% of those surveyed),
  • managing conflict (36% of those surveyed),
  • managing teams (36% of those surveyed).
