1 Case study: How is conflict handled in the public hospital system?
Conflict that is dealt with poorly leads to increased experiences of bullying, diminished staff satisfaction, increased turnover and the associated recruitment costs, increased absenteeism and stress related Work Cover claims.
Conflict is handled pretty poorly across the health care industry.
For example, health services across Victoria are struggling to come to terms with conflict in the workplace. The Victorian People Matter survey results for 2010 shows that 34 per cent of staff witness bullying, 21 per cent had personally experienced it, but only 5 per cent of people submitted a formal compliant.
